What to Expect When You Sync with Clio

This page explains how the Clio connection works, what sync timing to expect, and how to resolve the most common issues. If you are just getting started, visit the Get Started page first.

Sync is not instant.

Clio updates appear in CaseClock approximately every 5 minutes, not in real time.

Capture first, fix later.

If a matter is missing, record the time entry now and assign the correct matter once it appears.

Most issues resolve themselves.

Wait a few minutes, confirm the connection in Settings, then reconnect if needed.

The Basics

How the Clio Connection Works

When you connect Clio, you authorize CaseClock to access your matters, clients, and time entry data. CaseClock uses that connection to keep your matter and client list up to date and to support sending approved time entries directly into Clio.

You remain in control.

Nothing is sent to Clio without your review and approval. CaseClock captures and validates entries locally. You approve each entry before it syncs.

What CaseClock accesses:

  • Your matters and client list (for entry labeling)
  • Your time entry history (for context and validation)
  • Your billing rates (for entry formatting)

Sync Timing

What “Every 5 Minutes” Actually Means

CaseClock syncs with Clio on a periodic schedule, not in real time. This is intentional and normal. Here is what to expect.

What to expect

  • Newly updated matters in Clio may take a few minutes to appear in CaseClock.
  • If you just connected Clio, the first sync can take a short time to populate everything.
  • The sync runs in the background automatically.

What not to expect

  • Instant appearance of every change the moment it happens in Clio.
  • Immediate resolution if you refreshed the app once. Give it a few minutes.
