How to Export from Smokeball

Use the Matter – Full List report in Smokeball to export your matter data, then use CaseClock directly for import.

Matter – Full List report from Reports, plus Clients – Full List if you need a separate client ID

Export instructions

    Log in to Smokeball.

    Open Reports from the left menu.

  3. 3

    Choose Matter – Full List.

  4. 4

    Apply filters before running the report. Filter to open or active matters where available.

  5. 5

    Include useful columns such as matter number, client name, matter type, matter description, supervisor, and fee earner.

    Click View Report.

  7. 7

    Click the export icon (shown as a floppy disk in Smokeball's report toolbar).

    Choose CSV (comma delimited).

  9. 9

    Download the CSV file.

    If you need a separate client list with a distinct client ID, repeat the process using Clients – Full List or Contact Export.

Plan note

The Matter – Full List report may depend on your Smokeball plan (Grow or Prosper+). Menu names may also vary by region. If you don't see this report, contact Smokeball support to confirm what's available on your plan.

Confirm that the Matter Number column is populated for all rows before importing into CaseClock. If needed, create a client ID from the client name or a separate Clients export.
