Estimated time

Difficulty
ModerateStep by step
Open Time Matters.
Go to File > Export > Custom Export.
Create a new export template if one doesn't already exist.
Choose ASCII-Comma Delimited as the output type.
Turn on Include field name labels as first record — this adds column headers to the CSV.
Save the output with a .csv file extension.
Choose Cases to export matter records.
Filter to non-archived or active records only.
Run the export and save the Cases CSV file.
Return to File > Export > Custom Export.
Choose Contacts to export client records.
Run the export and save the Contacts CSV file.
Open both CSV files in Excel or Google Sheets.
Match contacts to cases using the available client, contact, or matter relationship fields.
Create one clean CSV that includes the CaseClock fields you need.
Template tip
Always turn on “Include field name labels as first record” in your export template. Without column headers, it is very difficult to map Time Matters CSV columns to CaseClock fields. Save this template so you can reuse it if you need to re-export.
Column reference
| CaseClock field | Time Matters column |
|---|---|
| client_id | Contact ID or contact record identifier from Contacts export |
| client_name | Contact name or client name from Contacts export |
| matter_id | Case ID, matter number, or file number from Cases export |
| matter_name | Case name, matter name, or file description from Cases export |
| practice_area | Case type, classification, or custom field if included in the template |
| billing_lawyer | Staff, attorney, responsible lawyer, or custom field if included |
| jurisdiction | Not confirmed in the standard export |
| billing_rate | Not confirmed in the standard export |
The exact field names depend on your export template. Use non-archived records only unless you specifically want closed matters in CaseClock.
